Plan a practical first release

Choose one useful journey, test its difficult edges and leave room to learn from actual use.

Choose one useful journey

A first release should complete a useful task. It does not need to contain every idea discussed at the start. Pick a journey that has a clear beginning, a result someone needs and a way to tell whether it worked.

Map the main flow in ordinary language. What information does the user provide? Which decisions does the system make? What does the person need to know at the end? This sequence helps identify the screens and data that are actually required.

Plan for the awkward moments

Then examine the difficult edges. Consider missing information, a lost connection, an expired session and an unavailable integration. Decide how the user can recover and which actions must be safe to retry. Error states are part of the product, not a final decoration.

Include the operating view. Someone may need to review enquiries, change content, correct a record or understand a failed process. A product that works for its end user can still be difficult to run if these everyday tasks are ignored.

Test and hand over

Agree a test list before release. It should cover the important journeys, the relevant devices, permission boundaries and recovery cases. Use realistic but non-sensitive data, and distinguish checks that have been completed from checks that still need a person or an external provider.

Prepare the handover alongside development. Document the accounts, configuration and editing steps the owner needs. Keep secrets out of ordinary project notes and make sure access can be removed when a person no longer needs it.

Learn from real use

After release, use actual feedback to choose the next change. A small, maintainable release gives you a clearer basis for that decision than a larger product built around assumptions that have never been tested.
